The Visionary Behind the Brand

Sri Mangala Meenakshi Jewellery is a brand built on passion, perseverance, and a deep-rooted commitment to quality craftsmanship. Recognized as the earilest jewellery shop in Madurai, our journey began with Purushothaman V @ Kanniah, a visionary entrepreneur born on April 1, 1938, in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India. His life story is one of resilience and determination. Despite leaving school in the 6th grade due to financial hardships, he worked tirelessly to support his family. To help repay his father’s loan, he took up a job at a local grocery store, showcasing his strong sense of responsibility from an early age.

The Journey into Jewellery Making

In the 1950s, he moved to Madurai to live with his aunt, where he was introduced to the world of jewellery making through his uncle, a skilled goldsmith. Under his uncle’s guidance, he learned the intricate art of jewellery craftsmanship. His dedication and natural talent for the trade laid the foundation for what would later become a pioneering jewellery business.

A Twist of Fate and a Determined Spirit

His career path momentarily shifted when he secured a job as a carpenter at TVS, a prestigious company. However, fate had other plans—his aunt tore his joining letter, preventing him from taking up the job.
Rather than being discouraged, this setback fueled his determination to establish himself in the jewellery industry.

The Birth of Sri Mangala Meenakshi Jewellery

In 1968, he took a bold step by starting gold jewellery manufacturing, supplying high-quality designs to multiple jewellery stores.
In 1975, he introduced Madurai’s first jewellery machine cutting, revolutionizing the industry by improving efficiency and precision in jewellery making.
In 1978, he established Sri Mangala Meenakshi Jewellery as a gold and silver jewellery store in Madurai. He began taking customized orders for gold jewellery, crafting unique pieces that reflected individual preferences and styles.
In 1975, his son Gopala Krishnan joined the process of jewellery making and later he took over machine cutting.

With an unwavering focus on quality and customer trust, the business experienced rapid growth and soon expanded into gold and silver jewellery distribution, supplying exquisite pieces to various jewellery retailers. Today, Sri Mangala Meenakshi Jewellery stands as a symbol of tradition and modern elegance.
